Fremont River Hike

The last time we went to Capital Reef Madisyn was one and Aidan was still in heaven, so it was fun to take them through all the great things there. We went up on Thursday, so we had a four day weekend. On Friday we took the kids on a hike by the Fremont River. On our way to the hike we stopped by an old Iron Smith Shed and looked at all the tools inside the shed. We talked to the kids about what they did with the tools, and then Madisyn pushed a button and an old man's voice started talking. Mike and I jump back and Aidan wanted to go back to the car. We tried to show our respect and listen to the story, but Aidan wanted NOTHING to do with it.

So we moved on to our hike next to the Fremont River.

We crossed a bridge that had raccoon tracks, we think, saw a snake (this scared Aidan a little and he walked further away from the river plants after that) and a blue tailed skink.

We then went up a MOUNTAIN we ended up naming Butt Crack Mountain, due to the large crack you can see in the picture. (please don't be offended we were trying to keep the kids entertained as they climbed their first mountain and this made both laugh)

The book said switchbacks, but it was STRAIGHT UP! Aidan kept asking to go back down, but we continued telling him he was ok. With Madisyn holding my hand and Aidan holding Mike's hand we made it to ALMOST the top. We came to the ledge before the final climb up the mountain, and both kids said they wanted to go back down, so we took a little break, ate some snacks and climbed back down. The kids did great through, doing the hike all by themselves.

After the hike we went to the Jackson Orchard and picked our first of many Apples. The kids loved finding their own apples, and Madiysn was the best and looking for the best apples.
